Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level III NICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring NRP certification and at least 2 years of NICU experience.

Details

  • Level III/IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit setting
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:00)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Required to work 3 weekends within a 6-week scheduling period
  • Required to work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • Floating required within scope of practice as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license (can be pending, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required
  • Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
  • Level III NICU experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Skilled in neonatal ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP), high frequency ventilation, and nitric oxide therapy
  • Experience with UAC/UVC catheter care, central/implanted line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Skilled in neonatal dosage calculations and IV vasopressor administration
  • BSN preferred
  • Two professional references required

Additional Information

  • Care for critically ill neonates requiring advanced respiratory, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal support
  • Responsibilities include assisting with lumbar punctures, tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and post-abdominal surgery care
  • Complete specialty-specific orientation modules recorded in Workday
  • Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with none approved during the first two weeks of the assignment
  • Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine an appropriate start date
  • Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or travelers) must have at least 1 year separation and leadership approval before returning
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
