Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse for a Surgical ICU position requiring at least 2 years of recent ICU experience and an active Ohio or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at a teaching hospital
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
• 36 hours per week including every Saturday and every Sunday day shift, plus one additional day
• Floating required
• Call required
• Uses Epic for documentation
• Medication systems include Pyxis, Accudose, and Omnicell
• Utilizes SBAR communication method

Requirements

• Active Ohio or compact RN license required at time of submission
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, or Transplant ICU experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care
• Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, and HFNC
• Ability to interpret ABGs and manage dysrhythmias
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation monitoring, and titrating vasoactive drips
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and management of acute/chronic renal failure
• Experience in post-neurosurgery management, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care
• Experience with GI surgery patients and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure management
• Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring experience preferred
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to surgical ICU patients, including hemodynamic monitoring and multisystem support
• Practice infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE protocols
• Perform phlebotomy and cardiac monitoring with emergency response as needed
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment only after 6+ months away from the facility
• Current employees are ineligible to work as travelers at this health system
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
