Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring ICU/Intermediate experience with trach and vent skills.

Details

• Acute care Stepdown Care Unit with 20 beds, including 8 private and the rest semi-private rooms
• Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
• Care for patients with COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, plus some neuro/surgical/cardiac cases
• Frequent care for patients on Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, trachs, and ventilators, as well as chest tubes, g-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
• RNs required to titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors
• Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor on each shift; charge nurse typically does not take an assignment unless staffing requires it
• 2 PCTs per shift, taking up to 10 patients each when the unit is full
• All patients on bedside Phillips monitors with tele techs interpreting strips and RNs confirming
• 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7am, with block scheduling available
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for nights, Sat/Sun for days)
• Every other holiday rotation, including the companion day of major holidays
• No call or standby requirements
• Travel RNs float first, potentially to ICU (with sufficient ICU experience), other Stepdown units, or Gen Med, with patient assignments adjusted accordingly
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS recommended
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• ICU or Intermediate/Stepdown experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio required; progressive care or telemetry experience is not sufficient
• Trach and vent experience required
• Experience titrating drips required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of OSF's Drug-Free Campus policy

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced stepdown environment with a diverse and medically complex patient population
• Collaborate with charge nurses, house supervisors, and PCTs to ensure quality patient care
• Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day of EPIC training, 1 day of unit orientation with an educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
• Any scrub color permitted
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
