Description

American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric Oncology RN with chemo certification and prior chemotherapy administration experience for a role requiring every-other-weekend availability.

• Pediatric Oncology unit specializing in chemo-certified nursing care
• BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) work setting experience preferred
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Requires working every other weekend
• Bi-weekly orientation schedule

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required in hand
• Required certifications: BLS, PALS, Chemo (ONS/ONCC), and APHON
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• Experience with chemotherapy administration including IV push, continuous infusion, and oral administration
• Skilled in accessing and managing central lines, PICC lines, and ports
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, sepsis, and tumor lysis syndrome
• Knowledge of biotherapy and immunotherapy administration
• Experience with bone marrow transplant care including graft-versus-host disease management
• Proficient in symptom management for chemotherapy side effects
• Skilled in neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
• One supervisory reference from within the last year required for consideration
• Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive chemotherapy and oncology care to pediatric patients
• Administer and monitor a wide range of medications including antibiotics, antiemetics, corticosteroids, and antitumor agents
• Manage central lines, ports, and PICC lines including care and blood draws
• Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values and manage related complications
• Provide pain management support including PCA pump management and IV push narcotics
• Collaborate with the pediatric care team and provide patient/family education and psychosocial support
• Perform wound care, chest tube management, and other specialized nursing skills as needed
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Flu vaccine required with no exemptions during flu season (October 31 - March 31)
• Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius at a reduced rate
• Previous permanent employment with Duke University Health System must be disclosed, and candidates must not have been permanent employees within the past 6 months
• RTO must be limited to 5-7 days maximum
