Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Obstetrics night shift position requiring C-EFM certification and prior L&D experience.

Details

  • Acute care setting within an OB unit featuring 4 L&D beds, 1 LDRP bed, 1 OR suite, 1 PACU/recovery bed, and 6 postpartum beds
  • Unit sees approximately 647 births per year and follows AWHONN staffing ratio guidelines
  • Cares for low-risk OB patients, stable newborns ≥36 weeks gestation, and high-risk OB patients followed by MFM
  • Level 1 perinatal/nursery designation for the State of Illinois
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7:30a
  • Uses EPIC EMR along with Philips fetal monitoring and OBIX systems, plus 24/7 central fetal monitoring surveillance via Peri-gen
  • RNs are responsible for reading FHR strips and titrating drips such as Pitocin and Magnesium (heparin managed by ICU/Med-Surg)
  • OB techs serve as certified nurse aids and surgical scrub techs for C-sections
  • Weekend requirement of 3 weekends within a 6-week schedule
  • Holiday rotation required based on unit staffing needs
  • No on-call or standby requirement, though low census may result in being placed on call for a shift
  • Floating required 0-3 shifts per week, prioritizing SEMC hospitals at Ottawa and Peru
  • When floated outside scope, assignments are limited to helping hands RN, sitter, or patient care technician roles
  • No floating to the inpatient Behavioral Health unit

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP, and C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring)
  • Experience with newborn stabilization and serving as circulator for C-sections required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Additional Information

  • Responsible for stabilizing newborns and serving as circulator during C-sections
  • Works alongside a Charge Nurse/House Supervisor present on every shift
  • OB on-call physician typically in-house during active labor, with a Newborn Peds physician on call 24/7
  • Respiratory equipment used includes Neopuff, heated high flow nasal cannula, and CPAP for newborns
  • 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Scrub color and dress code are flexible, but hospital-provided scrubs must be worn when caring for patients in the OR for C-sections
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate, though no radius restriction applies to overall eligibility
