Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology night shift position requiring 2+ years of Med/Surg experience and oncology experience.
Details
- Medical/Oncology unit caring for patients with cancer diagnoses, medical step-down patients, and general medical overflow
- 324-bed medical center offering primary and specialty care with 24-hour emergency and Level II trauma care
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Required to accept step-down patients
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required (compact license not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
- Oncology experience required
- Must be comfortable taking step-down patients
- Prior travel work history highly preferred
- Epic EMR experience highly preferred
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- Current ACLS (AHA) certification required
- Skills checklist pertinent to Med/Surg specialty, current within 1 year, required
- Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years required
Additional Information
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with basic knowledge of cancer pathophysiology
- Provide direct patient care including nursing assessments, medication administration, treatments, and responding to alarms
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and collaborate with care team to update treatment plans
- Process physician orders accurately and follow up on medication changes and order clarifications
- Navy blue scrub dress code
- Local candidates not considered; must reside outside a 50-mile radius
- No more than 5 days of RTO may be requested during the assignment

Cons
Subpar pay (non-competitive with regional hospitals). Starting pay for a RN is 32.90 per hour in 08/2026. Other area hospitals like covenant and McLaren Bay City start out in the $40+/hr range. Lots of drama with coworkers, but that’s everywhere.
