Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PCU/MS Float position requiring 2 years of PCU experience and comfort working across all PCU and Medical-Surgical units.
Details
- PCU Float role covering both PCU and Medical-Surgical units within a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital
- Day shift schedule: 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
- PCU average ratio of 5:1; MS average ratio of 6:1 with potential to flex up to 7:1
- Floating required across PCU and MS units, with staffing needs reevaluated every 4 hours (may float 2-3 times per shift)
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- One holiday required per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday period (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, NYE/New Year's)
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active RN license, Virginia State or Compact required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; CPI, NIHSS, and Trauma certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
- Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care, and peripheral/PICC line management
- Skilled in tracheostomy care and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Experienced in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips, and Rapid Response/Code team response
- Capable of managing PCA and heparin protocols, IV insulin administration, and endocrine/metabolic conditions
- Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) required, with cardiovascular and pre/post cardiac cath experience
- Stable ventilator patient care experience preferred
- Two professional references required for consideration
- PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across PCU and Medical-Surgical units, including cardiac monitoring, airway management, and medication administration
- Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
- Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront for consideration
- Local candidates are accepted; radius rules apply based on distance from the facility as calculated from the candidate's driver's license address
- Candidates living 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend
- Candidates living less than 50 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower rate with no eligibility to extend
- Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, subject to case-by-case leadership review
