Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and EPIC EMR proficiency.
Details
- Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
- 32-bed unit currently operating at 20 beds due to staffing
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 5, staffed with RNs and LPNs
- Patient population includes CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgical, and pediatric patients
- Unit does not manage laboring mothers or titrating cardiac/insulin drips
- Uses ICU tele monitors with off-unit reading, documentation done by floor nurse
- 3 nurse aides per shift and a House Supervisor who makes assignments (no charge nurse)
- RT equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow, with RT support available at all hours
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required, with Friday-Saturday-Sunday night rotation
- Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff
- Floating required to assist other units as needed
- No call or standby requirements
- EPIC EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active RN license (WV or Compact) required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- ACLS and PALS recommended but not required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong Med/Surg background required due to variety of patient acuities and diagnoses
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across a broad range of medical-surgical diagnoses and post-surgical cases
- Collaborate with House Supervisor for daily patient assignments
- Unit/department orientation includes manager review, facility tour, introductions, and 3-5 days of on-unit training
- Additional Meditech, pharmacy, and lab training coordinated through education department
- Scrubs of any color accepted except camo or orange
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify as a traveler
- Former WVU Medicine employees must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Former permanent staff of this facility are not eligible to return as travelers
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break
- All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
