Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position requiring at least 1 year of oncology or med/surg experience and a MO or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Medical Surgical Oncology unit of a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • Care for patients with solid tumors including lung, breast, and pancreatic cancers, as well as leukemia and bone cancer diagnoses
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-5, or 1:3 for BMT patients on all shifts
  • Average patient length of stay is 3-5 days
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Float within service line as needed to meet facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses EPIC charting system
  • Utilizes CAD pumps for infusion management

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted at submission)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required; oncology experience preferred but med/surg experience with oncology patients accepted
  • BMT experience not required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Skilled in IV starts, accessing and managing ports and central lines, and trach care
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred but not required
  • Phlebotomy skills required
  • Experience caring for patients with breast, lung, and pancreatic cancer preferred
  • Stem cell therapy experience preferred but not required

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy (for certified staff), IV therapy, port and central line access, trach care, and feeding tube management
  • No ventilator care required on this unit
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must comply with facial hair fit-testing standards for respirator use
  • No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this position
  • Local candidates within a 75-mile radius are not accepted
  • Standard travelers may work up to 18 months at this facility, followed by a required 3-month break in service
  • Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler

Cons

Just parking if you work dayshift have to take a shuttle to hospital and park far in a parking lot. Nightshift you can park in the garage.
