Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum position requiring 2 years of postpartum experience and a GA or compact RN license at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

  • Mother-Baby unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes vaginal and C-section deliveries, with occasional overflow hysterectomies
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3-4 couplets with 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7p-7a), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts on a 6-week schedule
  • On-call requirement of one 12-hour shift every 6 weeks
  • Floating required between Mother Baby, Antepartum, and L&D units, as well as adult med surg/telemetry units house-wide
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, Dynamapp portable vital sign monitors, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, and Glucommander

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of postpartum RN experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring certifications required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam
  • Strong clinical assessment and Mother Baby skills required for Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
  • Experience with IV insertion, IV care, and central line management required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care coordination with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • CNA support available for vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, and patient transport
  • Unit secretary support available 7a-11p; house-wide call secretary 11p-7a
  • Charge nurse role may include direct patient care assignments
  • Resource and discharge nurse team floats to all units for additional support
  • 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules, plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color required: L&D surgical green, with scrub exchange system provided
  • Free parking available around campus, with paid parking deck option
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • Must work one day of each major holiday period: Thanksgiving (11/26 or 11/27), Christmas (12/24 or 12/25), and New Year's (12/31 or 1/1)
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No radius rule for local candidates at GA facilities; local travelers receive the same rate
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
