Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Emergency Department position in a Critical Access facility, requiring 1 year of ER experience and charge nurse experience.

Details

• Critical access acute care setting covering ER, Medsurg, and Swing Bed units
• ER has 2 beds, Medsurg has 10 beds
• ER nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4; Medsurg ratio is 1:5 days and 1:6 nights
• ER patient population includes trauma, stroke, STEMI, chest pain, respiratory diagnoses, and lacerations
• Medsurg patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric, including pneumonia, UTIs, observation, and short-term swing bed patients
• Common drips include Heparin and Levophed
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
• No tele/monitor techs in the ER; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
• Nurse aides/EMTs/paramedics present on Medsurg at a 1:8 ratio; none in the ER
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (0630-1900 or 1830-0700)
• Self/team scheduling model used
• Requires working every other weekend and every third holiday
• Floating required between ER, Medsurg, and Swing Bed units
• Uses MEDITECH EMR

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of ER experience required
• Charge nurse experience required
• Critical access hospital experience strongly preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC
• Active state or compact licensure required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Active certifications required for all listed credentials; pending certifications not accepted
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Deliver direct patient care across ER, Medsurg, and Swing Bed units as needed
• No clinical involvement required beyond direct patient care duties
• Success on this unit favors teamwork, communication, flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work under pressure
• One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation provided
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
• Candidates directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible
• Requested time off must be submitted upfront and total 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
