Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a level 1 trauma center and level 3 perinatal center, requiring advanced fetal monitoring certification and high-risk OB proficiency.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Labor & Delivery unit with 9 LDR procedure rooms, 2 OR suites, 1 PACU, 6 triage rooms, an 18-bed antepartum unit, and 36 private postpartum rooms
- Cares for pregnant and high-risk pregnant patients, including vaginal deliveries, cesarean deliveries, and cerclage placements
- Follows AWHONN ratio guidelines: 1:1 for Pitocin induction and active labor, 2 RNs to 1 patient for vaginal and cesarean deliveries, 1:1 PACU, and 1:3 for L&D triage
- Uses EPIC EMR and Epic Stork with Phillips monitors for electronic fetal monitoring
- 12-hour night shifts with block scheduling available for travelers
- Required to work every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat on nights)
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday, totaling 6 per year for nightshift
- No call or standby requirements
- Floats to Postpartum (team of 5-6 patients) and Antepartum (3 high-risk, intermittent EFM monitoring patients) units only
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurse not taking a patient assignment
- Support staff includes 1 PCT in L&D Triage and 2-3 Surgical Techs per shift
- Labor hospitalist in house 24/7 and newborn hospitalists in house daily with NICU coverage at night
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
- Advanced AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience preferred
- Must be proficient in caring for high-risk OB patients
- Must be able to manage Magnesium and Insulin drips, including titration
- Must be able to circulate cesarean sections in the OR and recover patients in PACU
- Must be proficient in newborn care for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Negative drug screen required for all panels

- Provide direct patient care across labor, delivery, and postpartum stages including titrating drips such as Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin
- Surgical scrubs are provided on the unit
- Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 3 shifts
- Facility is a level 1 trauma center and level 3 perinatal center
- Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, though no radius rule restricts eligibility
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
