Description
American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift Emergency Department RN with at least one year of ED experience and behavioral health skills for a fast-paced, high-volume acute care hospital.
Details
- Acute care Emergency Department, Trauma Level 3, comprehensive Stroke Center and STEMI receiving facility
- 17 ED beds, able to flex to 22 with hallway beds when staffing allows
- Fast track through triage lobby, with a separate triage area travelers may staff if experienced
- ED holds are intermixed with the department, with the ED nurse as primary nurse
- 4 designated psych/seclusion rooms with 24/7 in-house security
- Averages 66 patients per day with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Common diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, psychosis, and behavioral health cases, with rare pediatric cases (treat and transfer)
- Common drips include insulin, cardiac, sedation, and other critical care medications
- RNs draw their own labs, with phlebotomy assisting when needed
- RNs monitor tele using Phillips monitors alongside monitor techs
- RT manages ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, ABGs, and intubation, paged as needed
- X-ray and CT located within the ED, with department staff handling all transport
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a) on an every-other-weekend schedule
- Some holiday coverage expected
- No on-call or standby requirements
- No floating required outside of the primary facility, though float may be requested within the region
Requirements
- Active WA state or Compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of recent ED experience required
- Behavioral health experience preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred, ideally 1-2 completed assignments
- BSN not required
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Serve as primary ED nurse managing a mix of acute and behavioral health patients
- Charge nurse role may be offered to experienced travelers, primarily on night shifts
- One 12-hour orientation shift with an experienced ED RN
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Strong team culture with an emphasis on accountability, respect, and collaboration across all roles
- Manager is a former traveler and supports travel staff as part of the core team
- Most travelers extend their assignments when possible
- First-time travelers may be considered depending on experience level
