Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a level 1 trauma center and level 3 perinatal facility, requiring advanced AWHONN EFM certification.
Details
- Acute care setting within a Labor & Delivery unit at a level 1 trauma center and level 3 perinatal center
- 9 LDR procedure rooms, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 1 PACU, 6 triage rooms, an 18-bed antepartum unit, and 36 private postpartum rooms
- Patient population includes high-risk pregnant patients, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and cerclage placements
- Follows AWHONN staffing ratios: 1:1 for Pitocin induction/active labor, 2 RN:1 patient for vaginal/cesarean deliveries, 1:1 PACU, and 1 RN:3 patients for L&D triage
- RNs titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7; charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
- Support staff includes 1 PCT in L&D Triage and 2-3 surgical techs per shift
- Labor hospitalist in house 24/7 and newborn hospitalist available daily with NICU night coverage
- Uses EPIC EMR and Epic Stork/Obix electronic fetal monitoring system with Phillips monitors
- 12-hour night shifts with block scheduling available
- Weekend rotation of every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday, approximately 6 per year for night shift
- No call or standby requirements
- Floats to Postpartum (5-6 patient team) and Antepartum (3 high-risk, intermittent EFM patients) units only
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of submission
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience preferred
- Must be proficient in caring for high-risk OB patients
- Must be able to manage Magnesium and Insulin drips
- Must be able to circulate cesarean sections in the OR and recover patients in PACU
- Must be proficient in newborn care for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Surgical scrubs are provided on the unit
- Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 3 shifts
- 12 non-billable orientation hours are required before regular hours apply
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced local rate
- No radius restriction on eligibility for the position
- Facility requires a negative drug screen across all panels as a Drug-Free Campus
- COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
- Cancellation policy allows up to 12 hours off per 13-week assignment without penalty
