Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week nights assignment requiring 3 years of L&D experience and an ID or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Women's Services unit with 14 L&D rooms where patients remain in the same room throughout their stay
• Circulate and recover patients in 2 OR suites for C-sections
• 4 triage beds staffed by travelers
• Unit averages 90 births per month and 1200 births per year
• Follows AWHONN staffing standards with 1:1 labor ratios (or 2 cervical ripening patients per nurse), 1:3 postpartum couplet care, and 1:3 triage
• Uses EPIC EMR and Centricity for EFM monitoring
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, with weekends as needed
• Travelers are first to float and may float to any St. Luke's Treasure Valley site (Meridian, Nampa, Boise) within their primary skill set or as a sitter for a full shift
• No minimum weekend requirement, no set holiday requirement, and no call/standby requirement
• 1 CST scheduled per shift and 1 CNA per shift (CNA coverage not guaranteed)
• OB hospitalist and Neonatal NP in house 24/7, anesthesia in house 24/7
• RT available for troubleshooting equipment
• No tele techs on unit; tele capability rarely used as higher-acuity patients are typically transferred out
• Cancellation policy allows the facility to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment

Requirements

• Active RN license (ID or compact) required and must be active at time of consideration
• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of L&D experience required
• Mother-baby experience preferred, ideally 1 year
• Charge nurse experience preferred but not required
• Must be able to attend deliveries, complete 1 hour of newborn care, triage, circulate C-sections, and provide postpartum couplet care
• Experience titrating drips required, including Pitocin, magnesium, and occasionally insulin
• Experience with magnesium protocol required
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Care for patients 32 weeks gestation and greater, including HTN patients on magnesium, BAC, TOLAC, and some gestational diabetes cases
• Serve a diverse patient population, including many transfers from home birth midwives seeking medical intervention or pain control
• Some antepartum patients cared for on the unit; placenta previa and placenta accreta cases are not accepted
• Admin Supervisor present on every shift; Charge RNs do not take patient assignments
• Resource RN attends all deliveries as a 'baby catcher,' stabilizes and assesses newborns in the first 2 hours, and provides second med sign-off
• Unit orientation consists of 4 shifts covering C-section, labor, and postpartum, plus completion of compliance and EPIC Curio assignments prior to start
• Hospital-issued scrubs required, to be changed into and out of at the beginning and end of each shift
• No fingernail lacquer, acrylic, or gel nails permitted due to embedded NICU within 7 of the L&D rooms
• Travel duos will need separate vehicles as they may be assigned to different sites or floated during a shift, and scrub requirements may vary by site
• Block scheduling and special scheduling requests are not accepted; schedules are built around core staff with travelers filling remaining shifts
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Permanent employees must be separated from the facility for at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
• Travelers have historically extended and returned to this unit
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
