Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center requiring 2+ years of ED experience and NC/compact RN licensure.

Details

• Level 1 Trauma Center at an 885-bed academic medical center with Chest Pain, Burn, and Stroke Center designations
• Emergency Department with 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, and 5 behavioral health holding beds
• Average census of 200-220 patients per day
• Receives frequent air flights via helicopter, with two fixed pads planned post-renovation
• Fast-paced regional trauma center treating all ED patient types including ESI 1-5, trauma, stroke, STEMI, and burn cases
• Patient conditions include GSWs, stabbings, multi-trauma, MVCs, MI, CVA, hypothermia, drownings, falls, cardiac/respiratory arrest, overdoses, and psychiatric emergencies
• RN patient ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1 based on clinical area and acuity
• LPN ratios range from 4:1 to 6:1 based on clinical area and acuity
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week, with openings for 48-hour schedules
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• May float to the ED Transition Care Unit
• Support staff includes ED Techs, Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse, Resource/Pod Nurses, 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, Intensivist, Critical Care Pharmacist, and SANE Coordinator
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, GE ultrasound and EKG equipment

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
• Minimum 12 months of core ED experience within the last year required
• First-time travelers considered only with 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care using evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making across a wide range of trauma and acute conditions
• Collaborate with a robust interdisciplinary support team including techs, pharmacists, and specialty physicians
• Unit currently in the second of three renovation phases
• Complete New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Royal blue scrub color required
• Free parking provided
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius to qualify for travel rate, as local candidates are not accepted
• Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
