Description
American Traveler is hiring a Neuro ICU RN for a Level I Trauma Center academic medical center, requiring 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and a CT or compact RN license.
Details
- Neuro Intensive Care Unit setting within a large academic medical center
- Level I Trauma Center with 1,567 staffed beds
- Average patient ratios of 1:2 on both days and nights
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirements
- Epic charting system used
Requirements
- Active CT or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy, arterial line management, and central line care/management
- Ventilator patient care and ABG interpretation experience
- Experience with continuous IV sedation
- CVA/acute stroke management experience
- ICP monitoring experience preferred
- Post neurosurgery management experience preferred
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management experience
- Isolation precautions and PPE competency
- 1 professional reference required
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical patients in a Level I Trauma academic setting
- Travelers must be willing to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
- Flu vaccination required with no declinations accepted
- COVID vaccination and booster required except for religious or medical exemption
- RTO requests beyond 7 days require additional approval
- Former staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to return as a traveler
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility

Pros
Breaks became more strict towards the end of my contract. I didn’t care for management but the RNs i worked with on nights were great. You will only work L&D, never floated anywhere. Felt like with it being a teaching hospital providers were nice and patient with you most times.
Cons
Don’t have much of a say with scheduling. Their protocols for a few things are weird and different than a lot of hospitals. Can be pretty busy, may be coupled sometimes but not excessively.
