Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week assignment requiring an active IL license and a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Average daily census of 35 patients with a 1:6-7 patient ratio
• Day shift, 3x12 hours (0600-1830)
• Works every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
• Uses Cerner EMR system

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required or in application process with an ETA to obtain
• BLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response experience required, including remote telemetry monitoring and use of Rapid Response Teams
• Gastrointestinal skills required, including colostomy care and feeding tube management
• Genitourinary/renal skills required, including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required, including port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Medication administration experience required with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Respiratory care skills required, including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen therapy, and tracheostomy management
• Isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Travel nursing experience preferred depending on background

Additional Information

• Level II Trauma center with 372 staffed beds
• Provide direct patient care to a Med/Surg patient population with complex needs including respiratory, renal, and GI conditions
• Scrub colors accepted: blue, black, or gray
• Free parking available with permit obtained during orientation
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO ideally limited to 5 days or fewer
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must have been separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
