Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of relevant experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• PCU/MS-Tele mixed acuity unit with 48 total beds
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5, with occasional 1:6 during high acuity periods
• Patient population includes COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, and PE cases
• Care for chronic trach/vent patients, with no nurse assigned more than one vent patient at a time
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15), 3x per week
• Every other weekend required
• Float requirement to like units
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules may be available
• Block scheduling accommodated based on unit needs
• Uses Pyxis and Epic charting systems

Requirements

• Active RN license, NC or Compact, required (pending license accepted at submission)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in high-acuity med-surg with occasional PCU patients required
• Must have 1:6 ratio experience within the last 5 years
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Experience with IV starts, ventilators, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management required
• Skilled in chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), tracheostomy care, and cardiac/vasoactive drip management preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Support team includes an Admission/Discharge nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Vascular Access Team, RRT, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team
• A team lead rounds the unit at a 3:1 ratio, along with two respiratory therapists and an assistant nurse manager on all shifts, including weekends
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start due to specialty requirements
• Scrubs not provided; white or navy blue required
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, with modules totaling 8-10 hours for acute care roles completed pre-start and annually
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
