Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Float position covering all ICU and PCU units on night shift, requiring critical care skills and VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Float position covering all ICU and PCU units within a Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45p-7:15a
  • PCU average patient ratio is 5:1 and ICU average ratio is 2:1
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Floating expected up to every 2-3 times per shift as staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • One holiday shift required per 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required; single-state license from non-compact state may be considered pending
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
  • Experience at a large Level I or II trauma facility required
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation/maintenance
  • Skilled in respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Skilled in surgical wound care with drains or wound vacs
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Experience with IV insulin protocol adherence
  • Previous charge experience preferred

  • Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adults and pediatrics
  • Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 100 miles are generally not accepted, though exceptions exist for inpatient RNs at Roanoke Memorial and Roanoke Community Hospitals living 50-99.9 miles away for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility, or under 50 miles at a lower rate
  • Previous employees must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
  • All time-off requests must be submitted at the time of application
