Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring telemetry and ventilator experience with a hard start date of 11/2.

• MS/Tele Float unit within a hospital setting
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• 26-week assignment with a hard start date of 11/2
• Average census of 36 with 36 rooms/beds
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics
• General medical surgical patients with moderate volume orthopedic surgical cases, including total joint procedures and simple gyn procedures such as hysterectomies and myomectomies
• May float to other units
• Every other weekend coverage required
• No on-call requirement
• Royal blue scrubs required

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at submission
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience required
• Total joint orthopedic experience required
• Ventilator experience required
• Epic EMR experience required (Allscripts preferred)
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Onsite EKG competency and Relias EKG test required prior to start
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Respiratory skills required include BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and tracheostomy care
• Cardiac monitoring skills required include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and use of rapid response teams
• Cardiovascular skills required include care pre/post cardiac cath, cardiac surgery, and post MI management
• Medication management skills required for heparin protocols and cardiac/vasoactive drips (no titration)
• Professional references required

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry-level nursing care to general medical surgical and orthopedic surgical patients
• Advanced EKG exam required with two attempts permitted and an 80% minimum passing score
• Onsite exam consists of 20 questions including 17 rhythm strips and 3 general questions with a 45-minute time limit
• Failure of the onsite EKG exam results in assignment cancellation
• Facility is a smoke and nicotine-free environment; candidates must arrive free of tobacco odor
• RTO must be submitted with the initial application and no time off is permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
• Once RTO is submitted, changes are not permitted except to cancel requested time off
• Local candidates accepted at the travel rate
• Return staff reviewed on a case-by-case basis
