Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CVU) position on nights, requiring 1 year of cardiac patient population experience and NE or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting within the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU), a stepdown unit
• 18-bed unit supporting intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients
• Serves thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart patients with diagnoses including CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac/vascular conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other BP management medications
• Charge nurse present each shift, rarely taking a patient assignment
• Patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio
• Hospitalist and intensivist in house with Cardiology on-call after hours
• RT in house 24/7, managing BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula equipment
• Remote tele techs available; RNs required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (0630-1900, 1830-0700) with every other weekend required
• Manager-driven scheduling; no block or self-scheduling
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to units of the same or lower acuity level

Requirements

• Active RN license, State or Compact (NLC), specifically Nebraska or compact required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of experience with this cardiac patient population
• BSN not required
• Driver's license required at time of consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide intermediate and stepdown-level cardiac and vascular nursing care
• Unit-specific orientation tailored to experience level, typically 1-2 shifts
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments
• RNs complete a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation on skills learned, requiring a 90% score to pass
• Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
• Upfront RTO must be 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
