Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring 2 years of recent med/surg experience and an active AR or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care setting in a 128-bed Level II trauma hospital
• Float pool covering Med/Onc, two surgical units, and two medical units
• Patient population includes colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, and ortho surgical patients as well as medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, COPD, and kidney/GI conditions
• 6:1 nurse-to-patient ratio with total care model and no PCAs
• No tele monitoring on unit aside from occasional strip reading; remote tele monitoring is used
• Cerner EMR currently in use, with transition to EPIC expected November 2026
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
• 48-hour weekly guarantee
• No call or standby requirements
• First to float among assigned units, including any Med/Surg pod
• Charge nurse present on every shift and takes an assignment

Requirements

• Active AR state or compact (NLC) RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
• Minimum 2 years of recent, relevant med/surg experience required
• Large hospital experience required
• BSN not required
• Not required to titrate drips
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a busy med/surg float pool across five units
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit with varying ratios
• Respiratory therapy is readily available to assist; RNs perform nasal cannula on floors but do not manage vents, CPAP, or BiPap
• 3 shifts of unit/department specific orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required; scrubs not provided
• No holiday requirement
• Interview is conducted directly with the unit manager
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
• Only October 12 or October 26 start dates are available
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
