Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced, high-risk Labor & Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of experience in a high-volume setting with over 300 births per month.

Details

• High-risk Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting
• Cares for obstetrical patients from 16 weeks gestation through intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum stages, including patients under 16 weeks with high-risk needs
• Unit includes obstetrical triage for screening prior to admission and outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
• Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage
• 2:1 patient ratio with an average of 20 births per 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms
• Double labor assignments occur daily
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• Every other weekend required, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Floating required as needed to special maternity care high-risk OB unit
• No call requirements
• Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting/communication systems
• 24-hour unit orientation provided
• Facility performs over 300 births per month

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license/certs acceptable at submission
• BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate certification required (AWHONN Advanced or C-EFM in lieu of AWHONN preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required, 3 years preferred
• Experience in a large, high-volume, high-risk OB setting required
• Skilled in circulating for C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and neonatal/infant emergency response
• Skilled in antepartum care, triage of obstetrical patients, IV therapy, and pain management
• Epic charting experience required
• First-time travelers accepted if experienced in a similar high-volume setting

Additional Information

• Provides comprehensive intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Circulate to OR experience for C-sections strongly preferred
• Scrubs (blue) provided by facility
• Weekly orientation schedule
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 7 days or less may be auto-approved if it doesn't fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; additional RTO requires facility approval and cannot be requested after signing
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
• Contracts of 20+ weeks accepted through late February to support the unit through the holiday season
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
• Assignment may not be realistic for shorter contracts due to high unit acuity and pace
