Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit position requiring active VA or compact RN license and prior neuro PCU experience.
Details
- 13-week assignment on a telemetry PCU specializing in hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients
- Day shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
- Unit operates with typical staffing ratios of 1:5, with a goal of 1:4
- Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on unit and tele sitting used for expanded Patient Care Tech coverage
- Requires EPIC charting experience
- Weekend requirements are either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
- Floating required within skillset across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
Requirements
- Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; single-state license from a non-compact state may be accepted if pending
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience, preferably at a hospital with 250+ beds or larger facility
- Prior Neuro PCU experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response/code teams
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
- Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use
Additional Information
- Work on a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center unit within a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- Provide care for hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patient populations
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with additional requirements for winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/Day)
- Christmas RTO requests cannot be approved
- First-time travelers accepted, though prior travel experience is preferred
- Local candidates accepted under specific radius rules based on distance from the facility
- Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
