Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a 30-bed Neurosurgery and ENT acute care unit requiring BLS, NIHSS certifications and Epic experience.

• 30-bed Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery acute care unit
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• 13-week assignment
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
• Floating required in accordance with the facility's float policy

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required, pending license accepted (must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• BSN preferred
• Experience with neurological patient populations including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral line care
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience administering IV insulin, heparin, and PCA medications
• Experience with feeding tube care and management
• Two professional references required

Additional Information

• Provide medical-surgical nursing care to neurosurgery and ENT patients, including pre- and post-operative management
• Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed for emergency situations
• Maximum 40 hours of requested time off (RTO) per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of submission
• Christmas RTO cannot be approved
• Any vacation time planned between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
• Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have at least 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
• Specialty-specific modules must be completed during orientation
• First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience for consideration
