Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Room RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active IL RN license and ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• Acute care Emergency Room/Department setting with 11 beds/trauma bays
• Not a designated trauma level, STEMI, or stroke center facility
• Averages 40 patients treated per day
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4
• Uses Cerner EMR charting system
• 12-hour night shifts with a 36-hour per week schedule
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Occasional floating to task required
• No mandatory call, though open call shifts are available to pick up
• Common diagnoses include cardiac, respiratory, and GI cases
• One triage room utilized only when patient rooms are full, not staffed separately
• ER holds are intermixed and managed by ER RNs
• Two safe behavioral health rooms located within the ER, not separate
• In-house security available but not 24/7 coverage
• 24/7 ED physician coverage with 12-hour NP coverage
• Charge nurse carries a patient load; house supervisor available after 3pm daily
• ER Techs provide 24/7 support; PRN sitters available with agency staff occasionally required to sit
• Respiratory therapy handles ABGs, intubation, EKGs, and breathing treatments
• RT equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
• Nihon Koden telemetry monitors used; RNs responsible for reading their own strips
• X-ray and CT not located in the ER; portable x-ray available and STAT stroke head CTs transported and monitored by ER staff
• RNs attempt initial IV blood draws with phlebotomy assistance thereafter; Steri-path used for blood culture draws

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 3 years of experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and PALS (AHA)
• SANE certification required as of January 2023
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Must be hardworking and reliable

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a busy ER treating an average of 40 patients per day
• Manage ER holds intermixed within the department
• Troubleshoot RT equipment as needed
• Read own telemetry strips using Nihon Koden monitors
• Transport and monitor STAT stroke head CT patients within the ER
• Unit-specific orientation varies by experience, typically including a 1:1 first week with the department clinical care coordinator
• Dress code requires grey scrub tops and black pants
• Scheduling follows a 6-week schedule with various due dates
• Up to 2 cancellations allowed per 13-week assignment
