Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring 2-3 years of specialty OR experience along with prior travel assignment history and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Acute care setting within a busy Operating Room housing 9 ORs, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid OR
- Averages 35-45 cases per day covering General, ENT, ophthalmology, ortho robotics (Davinci and Rosa), neuro spine, vascular, trauma, peds, and emergent cases
- Excludes CVOR and L&D coverage for C-sections
- Uses Epic EMR
- Varied shift lengths including 8s, 10s, and 12s with start times such as 7-5:30, 7-3, 9-5, 11-7, and 3-11
- No self-scheduling for travelers, though block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs
- Weeknight on-call rotation from 7p-7a and weekend 24-hour on-call rotation (7a-7p) approximately once per month
- Holiday call rotation as needed
- Call response time is 30 minutes; must remain onsite if greater than 30 minutes away
- Floating required to outpatient surgery as needed
- Charge RN and House Supervisor coverage provided 7a-7p; overnight shifts staffed with only one RN and two techs
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA); PALS preferred
- 2-3 years of specialty OR nursing experience required
- 2-3 previous travel assignments required
- Ortho experience required
- Must have experience passing arms in/out for robotic cases
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be proficient across all specialties for evening and night shift assignments
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Care for a wide range of surgical cases including general, ENT, ortho, robotics, neuro spine, vascular, trauma, and peds procedures
- OR staff is composed almost entirely of travelers
- Scrubs provided for RNs and OR techs
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts over 1 week
- OR techs are responsible for room turnover; no aides or housekeeping support provided on the unit
- Travelers rotate through charge responsibilities, including circulating cases as needed
- Facility support and mentoring available for staff willing to learn or refresh a service line
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility per driver's license address; no local candidates accepted
- Previous perm employees and travelers who completed a full year must wait 2 years before returning
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than 1 year cumulatively without a 2-year break
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
