Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and IL licensure for a night shift travel assignment.

Details

• Level 1 trauma center emergency department with 65 all-private beds, including 2 trauma bays
• Cares for a wide variety of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill, trauma, stroke, and cardiac patients
• Level 1/2 trauma patients are managed by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity
• Titrates vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips
• Uses EPIC EMR
• ED techs support the unit at a 1:9 ratio
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment
• Monitor techs assist with telemetry; RNs must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms using Phillips monitors
• Radiology staff or transport handle X-ray and CT transport
• Nurses and techs draw labs; phlebotomy may draw for boarders
• 12-hour night shift schedule with set start times, no day/night rotation
• Every other weekend rotation with block scheduling options (2 on/4 off or up to 6 in a row)
• Weekend requirement is Sat/Sun for night shifts and Fri/Sat for day shifts
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday or as negotiated in contract
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, not as primary team nurse
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• 13-week assignment length with 12 non-billable orientation hours

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
• At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
• SANE RN experience preferred
• Experience in a teaching hospital setting preferred
• General ED nursing skills including critical care and trauma management
• Proficiency in titrating vasopressor and cardiac drips
• Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms
• EPIC EMR experience helpful
• Must pass a negative drug screen across all panels

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care across a wide acuity range, from minor complaints to critical, trauma, and cardiac arrest cases
• Work alongside a dedicated trauma team, 2 charge nurses, and a 24/7 house supervisor
• Charge nurses may assist as a second nurse for traumas or critical patients but do not typically take a full patient assignment
• Minimum of 3 ED attendings staffed at all times, with mid-level coverage varying by shift
• Will be oriented to Phillips telemetry monitors as part of onboarding
• No specific scrub color required, but attire should be tasteful with solid colored shirts underneath
• Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• Accepts local candidates
• No radius requirement for eligibility
• First-time travelers may be considered given required experience and certifications
