Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift hospital position requiring 2+ years of experience and telemetry skills.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15), 3x12 schedule
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• 13-26 week assignment length
• Floating required within or near the facility
• Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
• Isolation area maintained for COVID patients
• Uses Epic and Pyxis systems, with SBAR communication
• Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture cases

Requirements

• Active RN license, NC or Compact (pending accepted at submission)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Experience with telemetry monitoring (remote and on-unit) and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and PICC line management, and blood product administration
• Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and high flow nasal cannula
• Wound care/wound vac and isolation precaution experience required
• Experience with IV insulin protocols, PCA, and heparin administration
• Colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube management experience required
• Pre/Post hemodialysis management experience required
• Epic charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Deliver medical-surgical nursing care including rapid response coordination and dysrhythmia management
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties
• Weekly hospital orientation with mandatory daily attendance during orientation week
• Unit orientation lasts 24 hours
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Scrub color requirement: Navy/White
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO capped at 7 days per contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
• Former Novant Health/New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with independent transportation
• First-time travelers will be considered for this role
