Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring AWHONN fetal monitoring certification and prior L&D, PP, and circulating experience.

Details

• Acute care Women's Services unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 triage beds, and 10 postpartum beds
• Unit averages about 120 births per month
• Circulates in 2 OR suites for C-sections
• Patient population includes laboring patients 32+ weeks, elective and medical inductions, stable antepartum, postpartum, and well newborns
• Follows AWHONN staffing guidelines, generally 1:1 in L&D and 1:6 couplet care in postpartum
• RNs titrate drips including Pitocin per protocol, magnesium, and occasionally insulin
• Uses EPIC EMR and GE Connect fetal monitoring system
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, with weekend and holiday coverage based on unit needs
• No call or standby requirements
• Charge RN, Resource RN, and House Supervisor staffed on every shift without patient assignments
• CNA support 4-5 days/nights per week and unit clerk coverage 24/7
• OB hospitalist, midwives, neonatal NP, and CRNA available 24/7 with neonatologist on call within 15 minutes
• Required to float to sister L&D units within about 20 minutes and occasionally as a sitter in Med-Surg or ED

Requirements

• Active RN license (ID or compact) required at time of consideration
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
• STABLE certification required (must have been taken at least once)
• Minimum 2 years of L&D, postpartum, and circulating experience required
• Triage experience strongly preferred
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to laboring, antepartum, postpartum, and newborn patients while circulating in OR suites for C-sections
• Blue scrubs provided by the unit
• Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 4-6 shifts, customized per traveler
• Staff cannot work more than five consecutive shifts per hospital policy
• No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests accepted
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
• Former permanent employees must be separated from employment for at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
• Client may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
