Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of experience and Cerner proficiency.

Details

• 17-bed Emergency Department setting
• Patient population includes geriatrics, psych, stroke, heart complications, sports injuries, and MVA cases
• Pediatric patients are minimal, as most pediatric cases are directed elsewhere
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• 12-hour night shifts on a 36/48 schedule (7P-7A), with some 7a-7p and 11a-11p shifts on a 6-week cycle
• No floating required
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on block schedule
• Unit support includes PCT, Unit Assistant, ED MD, one LPN at night, and an Emergency Care Tech (paramedic) from 11a-11pm
• Charge nurse typically not included in assignment
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required for first-time travelers
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI or similar
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Skills required include trach care, vent care, ICU drip care and maintenance, chest tube, art line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, foley, splint/ortho device application and care, BiPAP/hi-flow, and continuous bladder irrigation

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care across a broad range of patient acuities and conditions
• New hires or those with over 1 year gap complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit orientation
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates; requests over 7 days require email approval
• Scrubs of any color are permitted
• Free employee parking available behind the hospital
• First-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of experience and Cerner background
• Local candidates within a 60-mile radius are not eligible for this position
• Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
