Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, requiring 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience and PALS certification.

Details

• Work in a 20-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
• Unit is divided into two mirrored sides of 10 beds each, with the most critical patients placed nearest the centralized nurses station
• Care for a high-acuity pediatric population ages 0-18 with congenital heart differences, including patients s/p cardiac surgery, cath lab procedures, transplant, ECMO, Impella, VAD, dialysis, and Aquadex/RRT
• RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
• EMR: EPIC required
• IV pumps by Alaris, medication dispensing via Omnicell, and Phillips monitors
• Rotating 12-hour shifts (0645-1845 and 1845-0645) on a 36-hour weekly schedule following a 6-week cycle
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend or fewer, covering Fri/Sat/Sun
• Floating required to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed
• Call requirements apply based on prior scheduling
• No CNA support; 1 health care tech per day assists with unit secretary duties and nursing support
• Charge nurse and resource nurse are free-floating; RT, cardiologist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
• IV/VAT team available; phlebotomy in-house but rarely utilized due to central line access

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similarly acute facility required
• Experience with fresh open-heart post-op patients and transplant patients required
• Experience with Aquadex (RRT), Impella, and ECMO required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Ability and competency to float to PICU required, to be discussed during interview
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

• Provide critical care nursing to high-acuity pediatric cardiac patients, including pre- and post-transplant and post-surgical management
• Facility is a 247-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, Chest Pain Center, Certified Stroke Center, and teaching hospital with a congenital cardiology program ranked #7 nationally by USNWR
• Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, and accountability
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage requires travelers to work 75% of holidays, with the unit standard being every other holiday
• RTO requests are subject to manager approval

• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible, per radius rule
• Returning employees must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
