Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Neuro Telemetry unit requiring NIHSS certification and a NE or compact license.

Details

• Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting on the Med Surg Neuro 4th Floor North unit
• 25-bed unit with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Cares for MedSurg/Tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post neurosurgery patients, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• RNs titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips and manage PCA pumps
• Tele techs interpret monitor strips, but RNs should maintain tele awareness
• Charge nurse present each shift and takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:10-20 ratio
• 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
• Travelers are scheduled with limited block scheduling allowed
• Required to work at least every other weekend, with additional shifts possible based on census
• Required to work 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Floating required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients awaiting a bed
• EPIC EMR used

Requirements

• Active RN license, State or Compact (NLC), for the state of submission
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required and must be active, not pending
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Artificial fingernails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Deliver Med/Surg and telemetry nursing care with a focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness to patients
• Manage frequent daily discharges and admissions, requiring strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Serve a culturally diverse patient population including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese-speaking patients
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room
• Unit-specific orientation is 2 days with an additional 12 hours of general orientation
• RNs must pass an open-book pass/fail exam during orientation with a 90% minimum score, given all necessary resources to prepare
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• Travel experience preferred but strong candidates without it will be considered
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
