Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN with BMT and chemotherapy experience for a night shift position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

• Inpatient Oncology/BMT unit within a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
• 4:1 patient ratio with an average daily census of 30 across 32 beds
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required throughout the Oncology department based on nightly need, not limited to a single unit
• Cares for BMT/stem cell transplant, chemotherapy, leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma patients
• Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required
• Minimum 1 year of Oncology/chemotherapy nursing experience required
• Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with chemotherapy administration, port access/management, central line and PICC line care, blood/blood product administration, and IV therapy
• Skilled in Foley catheter insertion/management, isolation precautions/PPE, and telemetry interpretation/monitoring
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
• Knowledge of BMT-related complications including graft rejection and graft-versus-host disease
• Epic EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Administers chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy while monitoring for and managing related side effects
• Provides symptom management for issues such as nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and mucosal alterations
• Manages pain control including IV push narcotics, PCA pumps, and transdermal patches
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers will be considered for this role
• Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius, as no local candidates are accepted
• Permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period, followed by a required 3-month break in service
• Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation
• All RTO must be finalized at the time of submission with no additional requests afterward
• Facial hair must allow for proper fit testing or be shaved, with no exceptions
