Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Major Trauma Med/Surg unit requiring neuro surgery and ortho trauma experience.

Details

• Major Trauma Medical Surgical unit
• Patient population includes multi-trauma, seizure, GSW, falls, TBI, stroke, sepsis, psych, epidural hematomas/hemorrhage, cerebral edema, encephalopathy, and non-elective ortho trauma
• Performs or supports craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, AKA/BKA, IM nails, external fixators, and spinal stimulator cases
• Uses traction, external fixators, trapeze, PCA pumps, JP drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, ortho braces, hemo vacs, central lines, trach, PEG, and NG tubes
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 6:45 to 19:15
• Float requirement to all other inpatient units as needed
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday
• Specific scheduling requests such as block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

Requirements

• Active RN license (LA state or compact) required
• BLS certification required (AHA)
• ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Experience with blood product administration required
• PICC line management and IV starts required
• Pre/post neuro surgery and TBI care experience required
• Ortho trauma experience required
• Surgical drain and chest tube management experience required
• Isolation precautions experience required
• Neuro surgery experience specifically required

Additional Information

• May be assigned to an Emergency Team during facility emergency events, requiring extended stay onsite or relief team participation
• Must reside 65+ miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
• RTO must be disclosed and finalized prior to interview to avoid offer rescission
• Provide direct patient care including monitoring and managing complex neuro and ortho trauma cases
