Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level 3b NICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2-3 years of NICU experience and NRP certification.

Details

• Level 3b NICU with 16 beds, expanding to 20 beds within the year
• Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:3 for feeder/growers
• Cares for all gestational ages, including premature infants, sepsis, cooling cases, and substance abuse/withdrawal
• Utilizes Cerner EMR
• Uses Aveya, bubble CPAP, vapotherm, and oscillator ventilators, plus Phillips telemetry/monitoring equipment (no dedicated monitor tech)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
• Every other weekend required
• Floats to L&D or postpartum to care for babies, with priority given to travelers every other week
• Floor-specific orientation of 2-3 shifts
• Charge nurse present on unit; no nurse aides
• RT and pharmacy support available 24/7
• Neonatologist coverage on call (2 full-time, 1 part-time)
• No IV team on unit

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 2-3 years of Level 3 NICU experience required
• Travel experience preferred
• Experience attending deliveries preferred
• Experience with therapeutic cooling preferred
• Spanish-speaking skills preferred
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct care to NICU patients across all gestational ages, including premature infants and those requiring specialized interventions
• Coordinate with a neonatology team for on-call physician support
• Transfer patients out for surgical needs as required
• Work alongside permanent staff during holiday coverage
• Navy scrub color required
• No ECMO cases on this unit
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
