Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery with charge nurse experience for a high-risk unit requiring an active AK RN license and AWHONN certifications.
Details
- High-risk Labor and Delivery unit within a Level II Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
- Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Average of 7 deliveries daily, with census up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
- OB Triage sees 4-5 third trimester testing patients daily plus additional triage volume
- Facility performs 100-200 births per month
- Night shift, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
- 13 or 26-week assignment length
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to like units within scope may be required
- No on-call requirements
- No block scheduling accommodations

Requirements
- Active AK RN license required in hand for auto offer consideration
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience required
- BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, and NRP certifications required
- Charge Nurse experience preferred or willingness to train as charge
- Epic charting experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skilled in labor and delivery management including high-risk delivery, C-section circulating/scrubbing/recovery, IV therapy, and administration of blood products
- Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal EFM and IUPC placement
- Experience managing high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, PPROM, preterm labor, and VBAC preferred
- 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of experience within the last 3 years in a comparable setting required
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Must disclose any prior employment history with Providence facilities (permanent, travel, or per-diem)
Additional Information
- Serve as Charge Nurse regularly as part of this role
- Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages including newborn care and neonatal resuscitation support
- Administer medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
- Support high-risk deliveries and assist with surgical procedures such as cervical cerclage and D&C
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
- May float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
- Facility only accepts Hepatitis B vaccination; titers or declinations not accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent staff must be separated from the health system for at least 3 months before returning as a travel nurse
- Maximum assignment length at this facility is 1 calendar year, followed by a required 6-month break before returning
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be considered
- RTO must be submitted with the initial application and is approved on an individual basis upon offer
- Housing options in the area may be limited
