Description
American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN with charge nurse experience for a high-risk L&D unit, requiring an active AK RN license in hand.
Details
- High-risk Labor & Delivery unit within an acute care hospital
- Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Average of 7 deliveries daily, with census up to 14 including inductions and high-risk antepartum patients
- OB Triage averages 4-5 third trimester testing patients plus additional daily triage cases
- Facility averages 100-200 births per month
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required
- May float to like units within the facility or affiliate hospitals as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Epic EMR used
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required in hand
- Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience required
- Charge nurse experience preferred or willingness to train for charge role
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, and NRP
- Epic EMR experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skilled in labor and delivery management including vaginal delivery, C-section circulating/scrubbing/recovery, and high-risk delivery assistance
- Experience with fetal monitoring, IUPC placement, and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives
- Two supervisory references required, covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable setting
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages
- Assist with neonatal care in the delivery room, including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
- Support high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, VBAC management, and multiple gestation
- Provide postpartum care including hemorrhage management, couplet care, and lactation support
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Parking is free
- Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma facility recognized as a top hospital in Alaska
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
- Former permanent staff must be separated from the facility for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year per assignment, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility
- Only Hepatitis B vaccination is accepted; titers or declinations are not permitted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- RTO must be submitted with the application and is approved individually upon offer
