Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of large hospital medical/surgical experience and an active AR or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with Level 2 trauma designation
• Float pool covering Med/Onc, two surgical units, and two medical units within Med/Surg pods
• 128-bed unit with a 6:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Total care model with no PCA support
• Patient population includes surgical services (colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, ortho) and medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney and GI conditions
• Remote tele monitoring with only occasional strip reading required
• Respiratory therapy equipment managed by RT staff; RNs perform nasal cannula on the floor
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available with varying ratios
• Uses Cerner EMR, transitioning to Epic in November 2026
• 12-hour day shifts, 7a-7p
• Every other weekend required
• No holiday requirement
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required to any Med/Surg pod

Requirements

• Active AR or compact RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Large hospital experience required
• Current medical/surgical nursing experience required
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a rotating float pool across medical and surgical units
• 3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required; scrubs not provided
• First-time travelers may be considered
