Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift contract requiring BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications along with prior critical care skills.

Details

• Work in a 10-bed ICU with 4 PCU surge beds in a non-trauma, non-teaching hospital
• Average daily census of 7.3 patients
• Care for patients with sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset arrhythmias, DKA, minor trauma, ETOH withdrawal, ARDS, and respiratory illnesses
• RN to patient ratio of 1:2-3 depending on acuity, may include a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients
• CNA support available only on dayshift at a 1:10 ratio
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required at minimum every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within Stanly facility (Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, ED holds, Behavioral Health for med pass) and within Region 1 facilities as needed, within scope of practice
• EPIC EMR used
• Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors used
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience required
• Minimum 12 months of core experience in specialty unit, with most recent experience within the last year
• Stroke experience and NIH stroke assessment skills required
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
• Experience with arterial lines, CVPs, and critical care drips required
• Chest tube, PIV start, TNK administration, trach care, and NGT placement experience required
• Experience with drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley) required
• PCA pump and wound care experience required
• Ability to perform 12-lead EKGs required
• Medication drip titration experience required, including critical care and cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
• Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously in a permanent position there

Additional Information

• Provide direct critical care nursing to ICU and PCU surge patients
• Support includes House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team (dayshift only), RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and an Intensivist rounding weekday mornings
• RNs are responsible for bedside and central tele monitoring for the unit
• Hospitalist is first call for intubation, followed by CRNA, then ED as third line
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2-3 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
• RTO subject to manager approval
• Navy scrubs required, no t-shirts or Crocs allowed, undershirts must be white or navy
