Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 12-hour night shift position requiring a ME or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

Details

• 27-bed Med/Surg unit within a 64-bed hospital
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
• Patient population includes total joint replacements, general Med/Surg, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel cases, urology procedures (TURP, cysto), CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes management, and patients with addictions alongside other medical issues
• RN patient ratios of 1:5-6 on days and 1:6-7 on nights
• Uses Cerner charting system
• May float to ICU for Med Surg level patients or to the ED to assist as helping hands
• Weekend rotation every other weekend, with travel pairs generally allowed to work the same weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Holiday coverage expected for 2 of 4 major holidays as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license (ME or Compact) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), IV antibiotics, and heparin drips
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips preferred but not required
• Previous Charge RN experience highly preferred; candidates without this experience may be considered if willing to train and serve as Charge as needed during the contract
• Must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health hospital in a permanent capacity

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit supporting a diverse patient population
• Unit supported by a Charge nurse most shifts, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, and centralized tele monitoring
• One dedicated staff member assists with difficult IVs and central lines, though nurses are expected to attempt IV starts twice before requesting assistance
• Rapid Response is supported by in-house providers, respiratory therapy, ICU and ED charge nurses, unit charge, staff nurses, and nursing supervisor
• Orientation includes general hospital orientation plus one shift on the unit
• Scrubs of any professional color are accepted
• Free parking is available on-site
• Time off requests require manager approval

• Flu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only considered upon review
