Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring compact or PA licensure and NIHSS certification for night shift coverage across multiple acute care units.

Details

• Float pool position covering Medsurg/Tele units, Stepdown (IMCU/3W), IRU (Rehab), and ED holding
• Medsurg units (1W and 2E) are 28-29 bed private rooms with ratios of 1:6-7
• Stepdown/Tele unit (3W) is a 28-bed private unit with ratios of 1:4-5 (1:6 if Medsurg acuity)
• 1W Medsurg patients are mainly post-surgical and orthopedic cases
• 2E Medsurg handles pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end of life, and low-volume inpatient chemo, with potential concurrent assignment to COVID and non-COVID patients
• Stepdown unit manages heavy cardiac cases including dysrhythmias, CVAs, and step-downs from ICU
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a)
• EOW weekend requirement with 2 Fridays per schedule on Medsurg units; Stepdown requires EOW with Fri/Sat/Sun on nights
• Floating limited to other Medsurg units for Medsurg staff; Stepdown staff may float to ICU as helping hands
• EPIC EMR used facility-wide

Requirements

• Active RN license - compact or PA license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Current BLS certification required for Medsurg units
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required for Stepdown/Tele unit
• Must be comfortable managing both 'clean' and COVID-positive patient assignments simultaneously when applicable
• Stepdown RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Stepdown RNs must be able to titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin

Additional Information

• Float pool RNs rotate between Medsurg, Stepdown, Rehab, and ED holding as needed based on facility census
• Navy blue scrubs required; any jackets worn must also be navy blue
• Floor-specific orientation includes 1 shift with a preceptor for Medsurg and 2 shifts with a preceptor for Stepdown
• Holiday coverage required per the permanent staff rotation schedule
• Hospitalist coverage is in-house 24/7 with Intensivist support and RT/Pharmacy also in-house 24/7
• No dedicated IV team, but ICU charge nurses or ICU Director are available to assist with difficult IV access
• Cancellation policy allows up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel consideration
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travel assignments within the WVU system are limited to one year total before requiring a 2-year break
