Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring active IL licensure, ACLS/BLS certification, and NIH Stroke Scale certification.

Details

• Acute care setting in an 18-bed Neuro ICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Patient population includes ventric, stroke (with/without tPA), and craniotomy/craniectomy cases
• Requires management of ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines
• RNs titrate a wide variety of drips per physician orders
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour day shifts
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Nurses read and interpret their own telemetry strips (Phillips monitors), with a tele tech staffed each shift
• Charge nurse and house supervisor present on every shift
• Patient care techs staffed at a 9:1 ratio
• Floating required, with priority given to travelers, to intermediate (1:3) or general floor (1:4) units
• No on-call or standby requirements
• 20-hour unit-specific orientation (one 8-hour and one 12-hour shift)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required
• Experience with ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, tPA administration, and acute stroke management required
• Post-craniectomy patient care experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill neuro/neuroscience ICU patients, including stroke and post-surgical craniotomy cases
• Troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices as needed
• Titrate a variety of medication drips per physician orders in a high-acuity ICU environment
• Facility is a Drug-Free Campus and requires a negative drug screen across all panels
• COVID vaccination is not required
• Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible for a reduced local rate; no radius restriction applies to eligibility
