Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring 2 years of ICU experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

• 20-bed Neuro ICU (McAuley ICU) in an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
• Common diagnoses include CVA, ICB, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, and ventriculostomies
• Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2
• Charge nurse generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• Nurse aides available as safety attendants (sitters)
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Telemetry monitoring with EKG strip interpretation required
• Ventilator management required
• In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage, 24/7 RT, and 24/7 pharmacy with daytime ICU pharmacist
• 12-hour night shifts starting at 6:45 with bedside report
• Self-scheduling available, finalized by manager, with schedules released 4 weeks out
• Every other weekend required
• Rotates holiday coverage in with core staff
• First to float to sister facilities, with rare mid-shift floats to another facility
• 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required, Neuro ICU experience preferred
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Copy of driver's license required, with name matching government-issued ID
• Two supervisor references required, one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Must pass a Dysrhythmia exam through UNA prior to contract signing, with results submitted within 24-48 hours

Additional Information

• Work within a strong Stroke Program and Neuro Center in a newer, state-of-the-art unit
• Line insertions are common in this unit
• Navy scrub color required, with undershirts in navy, white, or black; navy scrub jackets optional
• Will work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's), with holiday time off considered but not guaranteed
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• On first day of orientation, RNs complete a pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
