Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department role at a Level 3 trauma, stroke, and STEMI certified facility requiring at least 1 year of ER experience.

Details

• Level 3 trauma, stroke and STEMI certified ER with cath lab availability
• 11 beds plus 1 trauma bed, with travelers eligible for trauma room placement
• Separate triage area utilizing the ESI rating system, with overflow to infusion rooms as needed
• No separate fast track, holding, or psych/seclusion areas; patients are intermixed within the unit
• Average of 50-55 patients treated per day
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 in main ER, 1:2 for ICU acuity patients
• Patient population includes chest pain, abdominal pain, DKA, sepsis, headaches, mental health, respiratory distress, trauma (GLF, MVA, farming accidents), and some pediatric cases
• Common drips administered include nitro, levo, insulin, and cardizem
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• Philips brand telemetry monitors; RNs must independently read and interpret tele strips
• RT available as needed for breathing treatments, with equipment including vents, BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow
• Imaging (X-Ray/CT) located just outside the ER
• Phlebotomy team handles redraws and blood cultures; RNs draw labs off IV starts
• 12-hour shifts with a mix of 1a-11p, 1p-1a, and 6p-6a schedules
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Self-scheduling used, with travelers scheduling after core staff
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• No on-call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE state-specific or compact) required
• Minimum 1 year of ER experience required
• Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC, CPI
• Strong teamwork and communication skills required
• Rural or community hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Level 3 trauma ER setting
• Work alongside a paramedic, CNA, and ward clerk on each shift
• Charge nurse, manager, and director support available during day shifts; charge nurse, house supervisor, and administrator on call at night
• Security present on campus 24/7 with an office located near the ER lobby
• 1 day of Epic training provided, followed by 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• Holiday coverage required every other observed holiday (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Small town, close-knit unit environment with many long-tenured staff members
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
