Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Float Pool PCU position requiring PCU/Tele experience and WA or compact RN license.

Details

• Float pool position covering PCU, Tele, MedSurg, and ER Holding units within scope of practice
• May also float to a second hospital location approximately 2.5 miles away
• Most shifts are expected to be spent in the ED Holding area
• Patient population includes neuro, trauma, surgical, and medical cases such as respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, ortho, and strokes
• Cardiac stepdown and cardiac short stay patients including post-CABG/TAVR, STEMIs, fem-pops, pacemakers, ablations, and post-cath care
• Patient ratios are 1:4 on PCU and 1:5-6 on MedSurg
• 12-hour night shifts, either 0700-1930 or 1900-0730
• Every other weekend rotation required, with occasional back-to-back weekends
• No on-call requirements
• Schedule is built in 3-week increments with no self-scheduling or guaranteed patterned schedule

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• Strong PCU/Tele experience along with previous float pool experience required
• Experience with 24-hour post-CABG/TAVR patients required
• Skills required include IV medication titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, BiPAP management, ostomy care, general drains, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, and lumbar drains
• TR Bands experience preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required

Additional Information

• Support team includes CNAs, a charge RN without a patient assignment, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 on-call cardiac and specialty physicians
• Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation and 1 day of unit orientation on the PCU unit
• Traveler telemetry competency is required
• Responsibilities include completing whiteboards, hourly rounding documentation, and bedside report
• Two-nurse verification required when wasting narcotics or benzodiazepines
• Pain medication documentation required before and after administration (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral)
• Scrubs must be a solid, professional color
• Free parking available in a garage
• First-time travelers considered if they have strong PCU/Tele and float pool experience
• Up to 5 days of RTO may be approved
