Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring a NE or Compact license and 2 years of PCU experience.

Details

• 13-week travel assignment on a Stepdown/PCU unit in an acute care hospital with a Level 2 trauma designation
• 40-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
• Patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
• Cares for adult cardiac med/surg, dialysis, oncology, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer, and renal failure patients
• RNs titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
• Patient care techs staffed at a 1:12 ratio
• High flow oxygen equipment used on the unit; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• 12-hour night shifts, 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 rotation
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to Med-Surg or ICU to take PCU-acuity patients
• EPIC EMR used
• One day of unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE state or Compact) required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Competency in arterial lines required
• Must be willing and able to read/interpret own telemetry strips
• Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care on a busy stepdown unit serving a diverse patient population, including Hispanic and Somali communities
• Overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners available on the unit
• Unit emphasizes patient experience scores, responsiveness, and clear communication about medications
• Success on this unit requires being a team player who is flexible, adaptable, and communicates well
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; failure to comply may result in contract termination
• On-call staff must be able to arrive within 30 minutes of being called back in
• Must cover a minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract timeframe
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
