Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Dept RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring active NE or compact RN licensure and prior ED experience.

Details

• Level ED setting in an acute care hospital with 33 beds (25 adult, 8 pediatric) and 2 trauma bays
• No fast track area; 2 separate triage bays, though travelers are not typically assigned to triage
• ER holds for admission are intermixed with ED patients and managed by ED nurses
• Typical volume of 70-85 patients per day (60-70 adults, 10-20 pediatrics)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, chest pain, sepsis, CVA rule-out, and fall-related injuries and trauma
• Staffed with 1 MD/DO and 1-3 midlevel providers at all times, plus dedicated Charge Nurse and House Supervisor roles
• 1 ED Tech (CNA) on staff from 7am-3am
• Uses Epic EMR
• All rooms capable of cardiac monitoring; no monitor tech, nurses monitor at the nurses station
• RT completes ABGs and breathing treatments; ED RNs and Techs complete EKGs
• Radiology located near but not within the ED; transport shared between ED and Radiology staff
• Nurse draw used for 95% of orders
• 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am)
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd weekend
• 2 holidays required per year (1 winter, 1 summer), with Easter on a separate rotation
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating limited to the pediatric ED only; no floating to inpatient units

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE state or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (all AHA where applicable)
• ENPC and NRP certifications are a plus but not required
• Driver's license required at time of consideration to verify permanent residence
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care to a mixed adult and pediatric patient population with a wide range of acute diagnoses
• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation before functioning independently
• RNs must pass a Pass/Fail, open-book exam on Friday during orientation covering skills learned; a 90% score is required or the contract will be terminated
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
• Navy scrub color required
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
