Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 1 year of oncology or med/surg experience.

Details

• Inpatient Medical Oncology unit within a large academic teaching hospital
• Patient population includes solid tumor diagnoses such as lung, breast, and pancreatic cancer, with some BMT, leukemia, and bone cancer cases
• Average patient stay of 3-5 days
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5, and 1:3 for BMT patients
• Performs IV starts, trach care, port and central line access, and chemotherapy administration (certification required)
• Uses CAD infusion pumps
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
• Option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within service line
• Uses EPIC charting system

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license (pending license accepted at submission)
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• BSN preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; oncology experience preferred, med/surg with oncology patient experience accepted
• BMT experience not required
• Skilled in IV therapy, port and central line care, and infusion pump management
• Must be able to interpret dysrhythmias and pass a Relias EKG exam
• Phlebotomy skills required
• Feeding tube care and management skills required
• Must be clean-shaven or have facial hair allowing proper respirator fit testing

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to oncology patients including chemotherapy administration, IV therapy, and port/central line management
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius
• Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
• Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any facility within the health system as a traveler
• No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation
